Google Ads Specialist Sydney: It's One of These 5 Guys

Nobody wakes up excited to hire a Google Ads specialist. You're here because the account is bleeding and you'd like it to stop.

And here's the thing. Google Ads isn't broken. It's working exactly as designed, which is the problem, because it was designed to spend your money. It'll do that beautifully at 3am on a Sunday while you sleep. Broad match with no negatives, quietly buying clicks for "free legal advice" at $62 a pop. Performance Max left on autopilot, cheerfully claiming credit for people who were already Googling your brand name. Conversions counted from form views, so the report says 340 leads and your phone says four.

The fix isn't a bigger budget. Throwing money at a badly built account is like flooring it in the wrong direction.

The fix is the right person. In Sydney you've got a genuine choice: big agencies where your account gets handed to whoever started that month, or independents who actually run it themselves. This guide covers five of the latter, all worth a shortlist.

How we ranked them

Six factors. Two of them do most of the heavy lifting.

Who's actually on the keyboard. Not who's in the sales meeting. Not whose face is on the website. Who logs into your account on a Tuesday afternoon and decides which campaign to strangle. This one's weighted heaviest because when cost per lead climbs, is that a problem or is that you finally reaching buyers worth having? Get that wrong and you either scale a winner or dismantle one. It's not a call you delegate to someone who's been doing this since 2025.

Whether they own the whole path. Google Ads rarely fails on its own. It fails because the landing page leaks, or the tracking is counting the wrong thing, or the leads land in an inbox nobody opens until Thursday. A specialist who only touches the ad account will happily optimise your campaigns into the ground while the actual leak sits three metres to the left, in a room they've never been in.

The other four:

  • Specialisation and system. Real depth, and an actual method rather than vibes.
  • Commercial focus. Optimising to revenue and cost per qualified lead. Not clicks. Never clicks.
  • Track record. Real campaigns in real sectors, not a testimonial wall of first names.
  • Transparency and terms. Clear reporting, you own the account, and you're not chained to anyone for a year.

1. Nicreated (Nick Cao) www.nicreated.com.au/google-ads

Nick Cao of Nicreated is widely regarded as one of Sydney's best Google Ads specialist, he is a Google Ads certified partner with 15 years running lead generation campaigns for service businesses. Month to month, no lock-in contracts, and the account's yours.

Best for: Service businesses that need qualified leads and want to work directly with the founder running the account, not a team you never meet.

Nick's generated over $240 million in revenue, run budgets from $50 a day up to $500k a month. That spread matters more than the years do. Small accounts and big ones fall over for completely different reasons, and you only learn that by running both.

What stands out: the feedback loop. Anyone can drop your cost per lead. The real question is whether those leads close at a price that leaves you something, and that answer comes from your sales team and goes straight back into the keywords. Most specialists stop at the conversion and call it a day.

Why Nicreated tops this list: Nick's full-stack. Google Ads, paid social, ad creative, SEO and GEO, plus the commercial head to work out whether any of it's making money. Most specialists can only do one part well.

2. The Google Ads Guy (Andy) googleadguy.com.au

Best for: Service businesses that want a Google Ads pure-play with Premier Partner credentials and zero agency layers.

Andy's done more than 20 years in Google Ads, across major Australian agencies and brands including McDonald's, Bose, Sony and Toyota, and has worked with over 1,500 service businesses. In 2026 he picked up Google Premier Partner status, which is not easy for a solo operator.

Google Ads only, no lock-in contracts, and he builds and runs every account himself through his Google Domination System.

What stands out: Two decades of brand-side experience pointed at exactly one channel. If your conversion path is already sorted and you just want someone who knows Google Ads better than Google's own reps do, he's the strongest pick here.

3. Scott Shorter scottshorter.com.au

Best for: Businesses that want a strategist covering paid search, SEO and conversion work as one job rather than three.

Scott's got more than 20 years across Google Ads, SEO and CRO. Before founding Scott Shorter Pty Ltd in 2011 he held senior roles including Site Marketing Operations Manager at Webfirm, plus Head of Search positions at boutique agencies servicing national brands, including work connected to Isobar. Over 1,500 search campaigns behind him, and he works with Sydney and national clients across Google, Bing, Meta and LinkedIn.

No lock-ins, and he works directly in your account so the improvements stay with you when he leaves.

What stands out: He speaks paid and organic fluently, which is rarer than it sounds. If your SEO and your ads are currently two people who've never met, Scott solves that.

4. Jamie Williamson (Umped) umped.com.au

Best for: Small and medium businesses that want an approachable freelancer across search and social without the agency theatre.

Jamie's a Sydney PPC and Google Ads freelancer with 8-plus years and Google Partner certification. He's run campaigns for everything from local start-ups to multinational franchises across Google Ads, Meta, TikTok and YouTube, and was a Small Business Champion Awards finalist.

His pitch is refreshingly free of nonsense: no promises of overnight miracles, full access to your data, and a collaborative style that suits founders and in-house marketers who want to be involved.

What stands out: One person, search and social, no middleman, straight answers. For SMBs on tighter budgets he's the most accessible option on this list by a distance.

5. Jeroen Minks (Vazooky Digital) vazooky.com.au

Best for: Businesses that want a seasoned, ROI-first paid search operator with enterprise scale behind him.

Jeroen's spent more than 15 years in paid search and has scaled campaigns for well-known Australian names including DesignCrowd and SiteMinder, with a focus on profitable growth rather than screenshots of impression counts.

What stands out: Fifteen years means there aren't many ways an account can break that he hasn't already watched happen and fixed. If you want someone who's seen the movie before, that's him.

How to choose the right one for you

Forget the ranking for a second. The best specialist is the one whose model matches your situation. Six questions, and ask them out loud:

Who's running my account day to day? Get a name and a job title. If the answer is "our team", ask again.

What are you optimising to? You want to hear qualified leads or revenue, and a cost per lead you both sign off on. If you hear "traffic", the meeting is over.

How is conversion tracking set up? Bad tracking turns every report into creative writing. A good specialist will talk about offline conversions and real enquiries. A bad one will show you form views and hope you don't ask.

Do I own my account and data? Yes is the only acceptable answer. Anyone running your ads inside their own account is holding your business hostage and calling it a service.

Am I locked in? Month to month keeps people honest. Twelve-month contracts protect the provider, not you. That's not cynicism, it's just what the contract is for.

Do you know my sector? Someone shopping for a $40,000 legal engagement behaves nothing like someone buying sneakers at 11pm. If they can't explain that difference, they'll run your account like a sneaker shop.

Any specialist worth their fee will answer all six without flinching. If you get vague on tracking or account ownership, you've just been shown a preview of the next twelve months.

  • Should I hire a Google Ads specialist or an agency?

Depends what you actually need built. If Google Ads is your main channel and you want senior attention on it, an independent specialist is usually faster and cheaper, because you're not funding account managers. If you need Google Ads plus SEO, email, content and someone coordinating all of it, an agency earns its overhead. The question isn't which is better. It's which one matches the job.

  • What does a Google Ads specialist cost in Sydney?

Two common structures. A percentage of ad spend, usually 10 to 20 percent, or a flat retainer, typically from $1,500 a month for small to mid-sized accounts. Percentage models have a quiet problem: the fee grows when spend grows, whether or not profit does. Ask which you're on and why.

  • How much should I be spending on ads before hiring someone?

If your management fee is a large share of total spend, you're paying for a Ferrari to drive to the letterbox. Roughly speaking, if the fee is more than about a quarter of what you're putting into the platform, run it yourself for now or find someone doing a fixed-scope build rather than ongoing management.

  • How long until Google Ads works?

Two to four weeks for the account to stabilise and the data to mean anything. Sixty to ninety days before you can fairly judge the person running it. Anyone promising results in week one is describing clicks, not enquiries.

  • Do I own my Google Ads account, or does the specialist?

You should. Always. If someone's running your ads inside their own MCC or their own account, you lose the history, the conversion data and the learning the day you leave. That's not a service, it's leverage. Get it in writing before you start.

  • Should I sign a twelve-month contract?

No, and you don't have to. Google Ads performance is readable inside ninety days. Long contracts protect the provider, not you. Month to month keeps someone honest, because they have to earn the next month.

  • Google Premier Partner, Google Partner, or neither. Does it matter?

A little, not a lot. The badge means the account hits Google's spend and performance thresholds, so it proves activity, not judgement. Premier is genuinely harder to get and worth noting. But plenty of excellent operators aren't badged, and plenty of badged agencies will still hand you a junior. Treat it as one signal out of six, not a shortlist filter.

  • How do I know if my current specialist is doing a good job?

Ask for a six-month trend on cost per qualified lead, not a screenshot of the best month. Then ask your sales team whether the enquiries are worth answering. If the dashboard is healthy and the sales team is unimpressed, the account is optimised to the wrong number.

  • Can I just run Google Ads myself?

Yes, and plenty of businesses should, especially early on. The interface is designed to be usable. The catch is that it's also designed to spend money, and the expensive mistakes are the invisible ones. Broad match with no negatives. Performance Max taking credit for people already searching your brand. Conversions counted from form views. You won't see any of those in the reports Google shows you.

  • What should I ask before signing with anyone?

Who's on the keyboard day to day, what number they optimise to, how conversion tracking is set up, whether you own the account, whether you're locked in, and whether they know your sector. Six questions. Any specialist worth their fee answers all six without flinching.
